Tim robinson wrong11/16/2023 In Wired this year, the writer Peter Rubin described the show as “a condemnation of facade. Checkmate 9la clinical study11/16/2023 ![]() Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) frequently metastasizes to the central nervous system (CNS) ( 1). Despite the fact that limited data are available in the literature, the purpose of this review is to show that the multimodal treatment of these patients with brain metastases and/or leptomeningeal disease should be discussed during tracing of the history of the disease, participating in the local and possibly systemic control of NSCLC. Nevertheless, neurological complications due to ICP treatment in patients with brain metastases have to be evaluated and carefully monitored. In contrast, few data are available about patients with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis. Despite important limitations, some real-life studies have described that the ICPs’ efficacy was maintained also in less selected patients with untreated or symptomatic brain metastases. This results in a similar clinical benefit in patients with stable, previously treated brain metastases compared to the general population. ![]() Although there are many aspects that would merit further investigation to explain the mechanism of intracranial response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICPs), some data suggest that they are able to cross the blood–brain barrier, resulting in local tumor microenvironment modification. ![]() Consequently, the appropriate care of these patients is a recurrent clinical concern. Nevertheless, NSCLC is the most common tumor to metastasize to the brain, and patients develop brain and meningeal involvement in approximately 40 and 10% of cases, respectively. However, the pivotal clinical trials that demonstrated its impressive efficacy often did not include patients with active, untreated brain metastases or leptomeningeal carcinomatosis. Immunotherapy has now been integrated as a treatment strategy for most patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Charles lazarus obituary11/16/2023 ![]() His close relationship with planters and estates gave him a remarkable insight into the sugar industry. The encouragement thus given to him enabled him to take another important step in his career, and in 1863 he established a large foundry in Kingston. Gimp tutorials female11/15/2023 ![]() This tutorial covers the whole process in great depth. Photo retouching is another common task for GIMP users. So even if you can’t imagine needing to colorize a picture, you’ll pick up some pretty cool tricks here. While most of us won’t need to colorize black and white photos on a daily basis, this tutorial demonstrates a raft of great techniques, including how to use masks, layers, and color tools. 13 – Colorize a Black and White Photo with GIMP This tutorial colorizes Dorthea Lange’s immortalĭepression-era photo. This tutorial provides five ways to use shade and lightning in GIMP. Working with shade and lightning is another fundamental skill for designers and photographers. 11 – Controlling Lighting & Shade in GIMP Obviously, this is no quick read at all – there is so much to read here but you don’t have to read it from start to finish. The document lists all filters by group (blur, enhance, distort, light and shadow, noise, edge-detect, artistic, etc.), so no matter which filter you want to look up, it’s there. To be precise, this tutorial is different from the others – it’s actual GIMP ‘documentation’ but since it is the most comprehensive documentation on filters, it’s a ‘must-read’. In such cases, a good tutorial about GIMP filters, for instance this one, can help a lot. However, when you are a GIMP newbie, this array of filters might seem hard to conquer. Here are two tutorials about paths – one about Bezier selections and one about drawing shapes.īoth tutorials are short and sweet - just a few minutes each to read and try. Night owl sleep study11/15/2023 ![]() The time of day when your brain is at peak performance depends on your chronotype, says Kristen Knutson, a sleep researcher at Northwestern University. All of these fluctuate in a 24-hour cycle. ![]() The internal clocks governing our sleep and wake times affect nearly every bodily function - body temperature, hormone production, metabolism, and brain activity. The differences between these two sleep patterns, or chronotypes, transcend an individual’s preferred bedtime, says sleep researcher Daniel Kripke. Night owls, on the other hand, sleep later into the day, perhaps even past noon, and reach their peak after the sun goes down. Morning people prefer to rise with the sun and feel the most energetic earlier in the day. Over the centuries, a combination of genetics and environment have made it so some of us have evolved to feel at our best during daylight hours, while others thrive at night. Anthropologists call this the sentinel theory. Sleep “shifts” would have shortened the window of time where everyone was asleep and the group was most vulnerable to potential threats. Such diversity may have benefited our ancestors: having people who are naturally inclined to sleep at different times may have increased the likelihood of survival for hunter-gatherer tribes. And, new evidence suggests they not only affect when we go to bed but also our physical and mental health. Our sleep schedules aren’t simply personal preferences - they’re innate, biological predispositions. When I’ve tried to adapt to my husband’s night-owl schedule, it hasn’t gone so well - staying up late one night usually requires a nap (or two) the next day. He prefers late nights, and even later mornings. By the time my husband stumbles out of bed each day, grumbling and bleary-eyed, I’ve already had breakfast, walked the dog, and knocked the first few items off my to-do list.
